Challenges Today to Mission "Ad Gentes" - Sfide odierne della missione "Ad Gentes"

Robert Schreiter writes on the challenges of the Mission ad gentes today. He starts by asking questions such as where is mission ad gentes going? Why do we think mission ad gentes is going to a different direction? What are the conditions that have an impact on the mission ad gentes and, therefore, how is this mission changing? He stresses the point that today changes in the theology of mission, in the world and in the agents of mission shape the way the mission ad gentes is carried out. Globalisation, as the era of empires in the past, is modelling mission ad gentes: the expansion and conquest metaphors of the past are now replaced by insertion, walking with the poor, dialogue of life, solidarity. Globalisation, affirms Schreiter, has a homogenizing power but also a fragmenting one.  That is why the mission ad gentes of the future has to build solidarity but also reconciliation. Actually, underlines the author, “reconciliation may well be the metaphor for mission”. Though this article was written in 2000 it retains its validity even today.  

Robert Schreiter scrive sulle sfide della missione ad gentes oggi. Inizia ponendo alcune domande: dove sta andando la missione ad gentes? Perché pensiamo che la missione ad gentes stia andando in una direzione diversa? Quali sono le condizioni che hanno un impatto sulla missione ad gentes e, quindi, come sta cambiando questa missione? Sottolinea il fatto che oggi i cambiamenti nella teologia della missione, nel mondo e negli agenti della missione modellano il modo in cui viene fatta la missione ad gentes. La globalizzazione, come l’era degli imperi nel passato, sta plasmando questa missione: le metafore di espansione e conquista del passato sono ora sostituite dall'inserzione, dal camminare con i poveri, dal dialogo della vita, dalla solidarietà. La globalizzazione, afferma Schreiter, ha un potere omogeneizzante ma anche un potere di frammentazione. Ecco perché la missione ad gentes del futuro deve costruire solidarietà, ma anche riconciliazione. Soprattutto, sottolinea l'autore, “la riconciliazione potrebbe essere la metafora della missione”. Sebbene questo articolo sia stato scritto nel 2000, mantiene la sua validità anche oggi.
