Workshop on Evangelization and Education - Convegno sull'Evangelizzazione e Educazione

 “South Sudan is one of the least educated countries in the world. Statistics say that about 72% of the country’s population are illiterate. Women are far more in disadvantage in terms of education. The Church has always been committed to education, while engaged in evangelisation, and is making a good contribution to improve education at all levels in South Sudan”. These are the words of Fr. Gregor Schmidt, Comboni Missionary, introducing the annual workshop held in Juba from 5-8 April.

The workshop centred on the Catholic Church’s involvement in evangelization and education, and also how the two aspects are interrelated for a holistic pastoral approach The guiding topic of the workshop was “the truth will make you free (John 8:32)”.

“Il Sud Sudan è uno dei paesi al mondo dove l’educazione formale è più insufficiente. Le statistiche dicono che circa il 72% della popolazione del paese è analfabeta. Le donne sono molto più svantaggiate in termini di formazione. La Chiesa in Sud Sudan, accanto al lavoro di evangelizzazione, si è sempre impegnata nell’educazione formale e sta dando un buon contributo per migliorarla a tutti i livelli ”. Queste sono le parole di introduzione di p. Gregor Schmidt, Missionario Comboniano, al workshop annuale tenutosi a Juba 5-8 aprile.

Il tema del workshop era sul coinvolgimento della Chiesa cattolica nell’evangelizzazione ed educazione, e nell’analisi di come i due aspetti sono correlati per un approccio pastorale olistico. Il tema guida del workshop era “la verità vi farà liberi (Gv 8,32)”.
