Storia e contenuti del Decreto ‘Ad Gentes’ - History and Contents of the Decree ‘Ad Gentes’

Anche se datato (è stato scritto nel 2004) l’articolo del teologo Gianni Colzani ha il pregio di presentare il dibattito che porterà all’elaborazione del decreto ‘Ad Gentes’. I Padri conciliari denunciarono come inadeguato lo schema sulla missione presentato dalla commissione de missionibus perché aveva un’impostazione troppo giuridica. I padri, invece, chiedevano che il decreto avesse un solido fondamento teologico e mostrasse il legame delle missioni con l’azione salvifica di Cristo e della chiesa. I periti della Commissione, quali Y. Congar, J. Ratzinger, D. Grasso, S. Seumois, J. Glazik e P. Neuner procedette alla stesura di un documento totalmente rinnovato.

Although written in 2004, the article by the theologian Gianni Colzani has the merit of presenting the debate that will lead to the decree 'Ad Gentes'. The Council Fathers denounced as inadequate the scheme on mission presented by the Commission de missionibus because it had a too juridical approach. The Fathers, on the other hand, called for the decree to have a solid theological foundation and to show the link between the missions and the saving action of Christ and the Church. The Commission's experts, such as Y. Congar, J. Ratzinger, D. Grasso, S. Seumois, J. Glazik and P. Neuner proceeded to draw up a totally renewed document.
