NUER FOLKTALES, PROVERBS AND RIDDLES - RACCONTI, PROVERBI E INDOVINELLI NUER

"Evangelization is not just replacing the old cloth with a new one. Missionaries must be very sensitive on respecting the identity of people they evangelize. The vernacular and the oral literature are the vehicles of the culture and the identity of each ethnic group". So writes Fr. Christian Carlassare as he introduces the book on Nuer tales, proverbs and riddles he, together with other local people, has compiled. This is not only a work of inculturation but a commitment to preserve the richness of a culture that is fast disappearing under the powerful blows of globalization but, also, - particularly in South Sudan – war and insecurity that totally upset traditional culture and way of living.

"L'evangelizzazione non è solo sostituire il vecchio vestito con uno nuovo. I missionari devono essere molto attenti al rispetto dell'identità delle persone che evangelizzano. La lingua e la letteratura orale sono i veicoli della cultura e dell'identità di ogni gruppo etnico". Così scrive P. Christian Carlassare nell’introduzione al libro su racconti, proverbi e indovinelli Nuer che lui, insieme ad altre persone del luogo, ha compilato. Questo non è solo un lavoro di inculturazione, ma un impegno per preservare la ricchezza di una cultura che sta rapidamente scomparendo sotto i potenti colpi della globalizzazione, ma, anche, - in particolare in Sud Sudan - la guerra e l'insicurezza che totalmente sconvolge la cultura e modo di vivere tradizionali.
